What's
New At The Dive Shop
Dominican
Republic - April 22, 2006
We have
decided to give the Dominican Republic a try. I have done
some reading and the diving sounds pretty good on the south
eastern side of the Island, particularly the La Romana area.
We are looking at the Sunscape Casa Del Mar, a 4 star all
inclusive resort (diving is extra) via Air Canada Vacations.

With the
help of our friends at Squba Holidays, this is what we have come
up with so far:
The week we
are looking at is Saturday April 22 - 29. The all
inclusive rates are $1132 for double occup, $1544 for single and
$1115 for triple. Taxes for everyone is $249. The flight
leaves Toronto and flies directly to Santa Domingo (approx 90
minutes to resort). Air Canada Vacations website is
showing two possible prices for double occupancy.....$1037
plus departure tax and $1132 with an early booking bonus of
$118 so this week could be as cheap as $1014.00 Cdn plus
departure taxes.
What's
Included: breakfast, lunch, dinner buffet, and snacks,
domestic and select international drinks, introductory scuba
lesson in pool, snorkelling, kayaking, catamarans, paddleboats,
windsurfing, boogie boards, banana boat rides, tennis, beach
volleyball, bicycles, horseback riding, daily activates, nightly
entertainment and disco.
I am still
trying to arrange a diving package, but so far the prices seems
pretty standard ($28-$32 US a dive). As with most dive
packages, the more the group books, the cheaper it gets.
So, as soon as I have an idea of the quantity of dives the group
will require, I'll be able to quote the diving more accurately.

Misc
Info: According to Trip-Advisor and various other
websites, this resort is ranked one of the best in the
area. If your like me, when reading trip advisor, you
read the good and the bad and still can't really tell if some
people just can't be pleased. So I tried comparing it to
something our group knows....the Allegro in Cozumel.
Interestingly, the "trip advisor" rating for the
Allegro is 3.5 stars and the Sunscape Casa Del Mar is 4 stars.
Joe's
Two Cents: For
those of you who have traveled with us before; you have no
doubt seen Joe planted firmly behind his video camera
capturing images that seem to disappear and are
never seen again! However, he has recently been working
away and have actually produced videos from Cozumel, Curacao,
Roatan and the Lost Island trips are in the final stages.
He promises that everyone who comes on this DR trip will
receive a video of the trip.....asap!
